If you haven't heard me moan about Scarf Latias, you probably haven't heard me talk for over twenty minutes. Scarf Latias has thrown half the metagame into stale usage like Gengar, Flygon, Salamence and Gyarados. Latias in all forms have centralized the metagame to revolving around two types: Dragon and Steel. As fun and creative as this is (sarcasm), I'd rather use all the types without having a team weak to pretty much all threats of that metagame. Indirectly, Latias threw Scizor into even higher usage proportions to the point that Scizor has over 10% usage to the second most used Pokemon. Tyranitar and Metagross usage have grown into the Top Ten most used Pokemon for their abilities to handle Scarf Latias well despite being completely checked by Scizor and Rotom-H. Latias herself is the third most used Pokemon in the OU metagame, finding her way into 20% usage, just .17% from overtaking Gyarados for the second spot.

Latias with Choice Scarf is the second most used set, just before Leftovers on Latias. Now let's consider this for a second. Latias with Choice Scarf has only one potential set while a Latias with Leftovers has about four standard ones and numerous other ones.

Now I can't give you a full Latias discussion without listing some counters.

Tyranitar can come in on any move from Latias barring Surf (Especially Specs Surf) and kill it without sustaining much damage with Pursuit whether Latias stays in or not. Just add a Lucario with Latias, and this counter just provides a free sweep. Latias and Lucario also cover each other's weaknesses.

-Pursuit
-Superpower
-U-Turn

Bullet Punch can pick off any Latias under 70% health but there's always the threat your opponent can switch into Gyarados or Suicune and start setting up the sweep. Pursuit can take out Latias if it attemps to switch out but if you failed to trap a Scarf Latias, you're facing a potential Hidden Power [Fire]. U-Turn can OHKO Latias barring the Hidden Power [Fire] as well.

Metagross and Blissey *can* check Latias but Blissey risks itself being Trick'd a Choice Scarf and Metagross has way too many OU absolute counters to be taken seriously.
